*PLEASE HAVE PATIENCE WHEN WAITING TO HEAR BACK REGARDING YOUR APPLICATION. WE ARE RUN BY VOLUNTEERS.
First and foremost, THANK YOU for deciding to adopt an animal in need! You are saving a life when doing so. The adoption process is as follows:
If you see a pet you are interested and have any questions before submitting an application, you can reach out to us either through social media or email. You can find our contact information on our contact page. You can also find links to our social media pages on our get involved page.
If you have decided you want to put in an application for the pet you are interested in, please click the button labeled "dog" or "cat" adoption application which will lead you to our online application. Once your application has been completed and submitted, it will take a few days to be processed. We will reach out to you to process your application. Please know that as some pets receive multiple applications, we go with what we think the best match is for that animal, and where we think they will have the most success. We will try our best to notify you if the pet you are interested in has been adopted.
Once your application has been reviewed, we will arrange a time to discuss details about your application and the pet you are interested in, and also go over any questions about the process. In order to adopt with our rescue, we require the following:
- Must be 21 years or older to adopt
- Must have landlord approval to adopt the pet you are interested in (this only applies if you are a tenant)
- Current pets must be spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations and preventions.
Approved Applications are required for meet and greets.
(Since our rescue operates out of the Charleston and Charlotte areas, we have listed each animal's location at the bottom of their profile. Our rescues do not have to be adopted in the city they are fostered in).

"In his foster home Yeller lives with an abundance of different types of dogs and he gets along with everyone. In fact, Yeller is required to go to a home with at least one other dog, as another dog helps him build his confidence.
Yeller is fully potty trained, crate trained, and is very well behaved. He loves to lay on the couch, in a dog bed, or even sleep in his crate. He is trained to go to his crate for his meals, and he loves that. He does not walk on a leash due to his fear, so a fenced yard is required. A secure fence (one that is not easy to jump) is required.
Although Yeller doesn't love touch and we haven't gotten a collar on him, he does enjoy human connection, sitting on the couch a few feet from you while you watch tv, or following you room to room, but from a distance. It's a relationship with a dog who just wants to social distance at all times, but occasionally he'll surprise you by "booping" you. He is an incredible dog, and I do believe that he will flourish one day, he just takes a lot of time to get used to you. He does enjoy taking treats from your hands and I have successfully touched his feet. We think that Yeller is just so comfortable in his current foster home that he isn't going to push himself further, but in a forever home, he will be forced to "start over" and we think that is when he is going to really bond with his humans.
He is the perfect dog for someone who just wants a calm companion at home. He won't be your dog park dog or your restaurant dog, but he'll definitely be a sweet, calm companion that is still so deserving of a loving home and family."
Yeller is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on prevention. He is sadly heartworm positive, but due to his timidness with people, we chose to do the slow kill method for the heartworms. Yeller's almost due for his recheck so we imagine he will be negative once we test.
(Yeller is located in Charleston SC).
Sunny came to Bridge Between unexpectedly when we saw her in the back of the shelter with a fractured leg. Despite the pain she had to be in, she was SO sweet and wore the biggest smile - hence the name "Sunny"! This yellow girl is a hound / hound mix and is likely about 2 years old. She is full grown at 44 pounds. Sunny underwent surgery to heal her fracture and healed beautifully. She is now living a very fun and normal life! Here are some notes from her foster:
"Sunny is exactly as described - a delightful, happy ray of sunshine. This girl is wonderful to have. She loves to cuddle, play with her toys, go for walks, and see other dogs! She is very friendly with her foster siblings. Sunny is crate-trained and does well in her crate. She may whine a bit at first but once she settles into her routine, she's completely fine! She would thrive even more with some basic obedience training. She loves leash walks but is a strong walker, and also has the habit of jumping up for "hugs". She may do better in a home without small kids that she could knock over. Sunny loves to play, but surprisingly sleeps for the majority of the day and is overall pretty low maintenance for her age!"
Sunny is great with other dogs but prefers to avoid alpha types, as they intimidate her. She is very friendly and snuggly. She loves her people, and we often joke that she is a princess because she demands attention all of the time! This girl is beautiful, loving, funny, and will constantly keep a smile on your face. Sunny is spayed, up to date on prevention and vaccination, and microchipped.
(Sunny is located in Charleston, SC).
This is a special adoption profile, because Parka is a special dog. Her story is one of the saddest. She was almost euthanized for being "reactive" at the shelter. They kept giving her extensions because there were so many people rooting for her. Parka finally made it out thanks to the angels who offered to foster. The biggest surprise happened when she made it out of the shelter. Her foster woke up to PUPPIES. Suddenly it all made sense while Parka was "reactive" at the shelter. She was pregnant, approaching labor. Sadly the shelter did not realize that Parka was pregnant due to thinking her sagging teets were from past litters. She received her vaccines at the shelter which caused complications for the puppies, and only one survived. Now you can see why we said Parka's story is one of the saddest. She was still such a great mom and did an amazing job raising her puppy. He has since been adopted.
Her sad story doesn't end there. After completing heartworm treatment, it was time for Parka to get spayed. During her spay, the doctors found two mammary tumors. We chose to do biopsies, and we found that one was benign, but the other was cancerous. Thankfully with it being removed, it could not spread, and Parka does not have cancer. She has been healing up wonderfully from this surgery.
Parka has really blossomed in her foster home, but it's going to take a special person/family to be her forever home. She really thrives with the company of another dog in the home, so another dog in her forever home is required. When Parka gets nervous because of new smells/loud noises, etc., the dog in her foster home helps her calm down and shows her how to be confident. Parka really loves her foster mom, and is still a little shy around men and strangers. Parka is really great in the house and is crate and potty trained. She can go on the leash for potty time, but is still nervous on walks.
This sweet girl has been through so much. She deserves a calm, loving, peaceful home that will give her love and safety for the remainder of her days. She is fully vetted with a lot of life left to live.
(Parka is located in Fort Mill, SC)
When this boy first came to us, we thought he was a hospice case. He would walk a few steps and then collapse from the pain. He was skin and bones. He was delusional.
His original foster bailed, placing him in overflow where he was surrounded by other dogs and very stressed. He struggled with being underweight, hair loss, and severe GI issues. We did tons of testing and ultimately discovered it was all stress related. We were finally able to secure a foster home for Bernard that had the perfect set up for him, and then suddenly, this boy finally got to transform like he deserved!
Bernard has since gained weight, grown a healthy coat, and has had NO GI issues. He still has some quirks and things that overstimulate him, but his foster mom has done an incredible job with his training and teaching him how to live a normal dog life. We think Bernard grew up in an outdoor kennel, and we believe his only socialization was for breeding. Because of that, he doesn’t really understand what it’s like to be a normal dog. His current setup is a little different but brings him the most joy. He has an outdoor temp controlled dog house (like an actual house) with his own big fenced in run. He likes to come into the main house for time with his foster mom. He is still learning what is a chew toy and what isn’t, and is a curious boy who likes to check everything out! He’s kind of like a puppy in an old man's body.
Bernard enjoys leash walks, soft beds to lay on, and spending time in his house with a good chew. His ideal home is one that understands the quirks of a German Shepherd (one of the best breeds IYKYK), and a home where he can be the only dog. Bernard has met other dogs and done well, but again, he had very limited socialization and it’s hard for him to read other dogs. Bernard is fully vetted and is ready for his forever home!
(Bernard is located in Charleston SC)
"Sparky is an awesome dog! He's a really good boy (and a big love bug baby) who loves to hang out in the backyard, go for walks on the leash, and play with toys. Overall, he is pretty chill and well behaved despite not having the best start to life. We're working on same basic commands like sit, come, stay, etc. He can be mouthy when playing so we are working on that. He's like a big puppy! But he is so smart and wants to please his humans. Sparky is crate, leash, and potty trained. He is dog friendly. He is also good with kids! We do not know how he is around cats. Sparky loves adventures and would be a great addition to any family. He does not require a fenced yard. He loves going out in public, does great for his photoshoots, and can entertain himself when needed. He is overall such an easy boy."
Sparky is up to date on core vaccinations, prevention, and is microchipped and neutered.
(Sparky is located in Charleston, SC).
"Bindi is the sweetest love bug. As soon as I brought her back to my place she made herself right at home and didn’t need any adjusting to a new environment. She’s so playful and loves running around with her foster sister in the backyard and chasing tennis balls. She loves getting all the pets, love, and kisses. She is crate trained and potty trained. She knows to sit and wait before I open the door before going outside. We’re still working on her leash walking skills, but getting better! She loves to explore and is taking full advantage of long walks in my neighborhood. She’s very dog friendly and kid friendly too! She loves being the center of attention and is the perfect cuddle buddy after she gets her energy out. This little fun sized cutie would make the perfect addition to your family!"
Bindi is fully vaccinated, up to date on prevention, spayed, and microchipped.
(Bindi is located in Charleston, SC).
These two siblings are fully vetted. They would love to find a home together, but it is not required. If they are adopted together, adopters only pay one adoption fee.
(Sully & Celia are located in Charleston, SC).
Born approximately April 8th, Ellie would soon wind up in the shelter with her mom and siblings. One by one, some of the siblings were adopted, but 5 remained, growing up in the shelter. Ellie came to us with the remaining siblings a few months ago, but is now growing up in foster care.
Ellie is an incredible dog! She is beautiful, loving, funny, smart, and well behaved. She loves everyone she meets. She is dog friendly and also crate and potty trained. Ellie has attended many of our adoption events and does great on the leash. She will roll over for belly scratches from humans, and even kids! She has so much love to give and would make a great family dog or a great companion for a person looking for a furry family member.
Ellie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and up to date on prevention. She is almost full grown at about 40 pounds, and probably won't surpass the 50 pound range.
(Ellie is located in North Charleston, SC).
Born approximately April 8th, Marsha would soon wind up in the shelter with her mom and siblings. One by one, some of the siblings were adopted, but 5 remained, growing up in the shelter. Marsha came to us with the remaining siblings a few months ago, but is now growing up in foster care.

"Luke (who our kids have dubbed Cheesy because he is always smiling), is smaller than his siblings so we think he may be the runt. Despite being the smaller, his personality is big! He is curious, mischievous, and playful. He loves to wrestle with his brother that is also in his foster home! He walks well on the leash and is interested in meeting other dogs when we're out and about. He found his voice and uses it to tell me to hurry up during meal time lol! He loves his food which makes training fun and easy with him. He absolutely LOVES kids and would be a great family dog. He has also been good with cats when meeting them briefly. He is a smart, loving, well behaved puppy!".
Luke is fully vetted and ready for his forever home!
(Luke is located in Charleston, SC).
Kiki is fully vetted. Interested in adopting?
(Kiki is located in Charleston, SC).
Elmer is fully potty and crate trained. His favorite things are playing with his doggy friends or working on a good chew toy. We are working on his leash skills and confidence, and he is making great progress! Elmer thrives with a structured routine and loves his crate. He would thrive in a home that will continue to use the crate, continue helping him build confidence, and of course show him all the love he missed out on the first part of his life! Elmer the sweetest boy and is even great with cats as well!
This is Elmer's first real experience with people, and it's been amazing watching his personality shine. With time and patience, we know he'll be an incredible companion for the right person! Elmer is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, and HW-. Elmer will need at least one other dog in his forever home to help him with his confidence. He would also thrive with a fenced yard, but it is not necessarily required.
(Elmer is located in Charlotte, NC)
Bubs loves people, and his favorite thing is snuggling up to his humans. He is also very dog friendly and enjoys playing and snuggling with is foster siblings as well. Bubs is great on the leash and enjoys going for walks so much that sometimes he will carry his own leash! He is also crate and potty trained. This sweet boy is a goofy, playful, love bug who will make a great addition for a family/person. Bubs' ideal home is one with another dog (or planned doggy play dates) since he loves playing so much. He'd make a great companion to a current dog without adding on a lot of work, because he is just that good of a pup! His foster fam brags about how incredible he is, and says whoever adopts this boy will be very lucky.
Bubs is fully vetted. His final days of heartworm treatment are approaching, and we would love to find this boy his forever home!
(Bubs is located in Charleston, SC).
A little about me! I spent a lot of time in the shelter system until one day I was rescued and swapped out a cold shelter floor for a nice warm bed. Since being with my foster family, I have learned how to sit & shake for treats, use my crate, and potty outside ( I’ve never had an accident in the house which makes my foster mama so proud). I am extremely dog friendly and love playing with all my foster brothers and sisters of any size. I love socializing with people and I’m a great patio pup with manners, and I take correction very well! I am crate trained and go right in when given a little treat. I like to sleep on my dog bed in my foster parents room (my foster daddy tucks me in every night before bed and helps me fall right to sleep)! I am very loving and loyal and will follow you all around the house looking for love and attention! I often get overlooked due to my size and appearance but if you give me a chance I will show you unconditional love for the rest of my life. I don’t think I’m a fan of cats, but I would be a great fit in a household with other pups or none at all since most of my attention will be directed towards my human.
Please consider adopting me if you’re looking for a furever best friend. I'm fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, up to date on prevention, and completed heartworm treatment. Also my foster mom tells me my rescue story is quite special and whoever adopts me will be hitting the jackpot! (Remind her to tell you my story if we get the chance to meet in person)!
xoxo- Bean
Fred and his siblings were brought into a rural animal shelter as strays, but the odds were against them because they were completely feral. Our best guess is that the puppies were born in the woods somewhere and lived on the streets with no human interaction until being picked up by animal control. Unfortunately, that is a death sentence for dogs in shelters, but thankfully for Fred and his siblings, they were rescued.
We initially thought Fred and his siblings were pretty young because of their size, but they had all of their adult teeth when we got them which meant they were older. Fred is about 6 months old and only about 20 pounds now, which means he will be a nice medium size (around 40 pounds) when full grown. Fred is incredibly smart and has really come out of his shell in his foster home. He loves his crate and knows to go there when it's time for his foster to go to work, or when it's time for his meals. He likes to lay down and eat his food, really savoring the beauty of consistent meals!
Fred is very comfortable in his foster home with the other dogs, but still shy with people. He is still very nervous being handled but now comes up to his foster for pets and chin scratches. He loves to take treats from his foster as well. Fred hasn't done much training with a leash, so there is still some work there for him. His favorite things are chasing his foster siblings in the yard, or snuggling up with a chew toy in his dog bed. He is mostly potty trained.
Fred is required to go to a home with another dog. Another dog will help be a role model for him and show him how to continue building confidence. Fred matches the energy of other dogs extremely well. He can be playful, or he can mind his own business if he needs to. He enjoys snuggles with his furry siblings as much as he likes to snuggle next to his people!
Fred's ideal home is one with at least one other dog that will continue to show him the ropes and help him build confidence. The perfect adopter is one that will continue to give him time to warm up and create that special bond, and one who will continue teaching him how to be a normal dog by showing him humans are not so scary. Fred needs a fenced yard in his forever home so that he has a safe place to potty and play. He has been around kids and done well, but young children may make him nervous, so ideally there are no young kids in his forever home. If you are looking for a quiet, laid back, beautiful puppy who will continue making a beautiful transformation as he bonds with his forever family, Fred could be the perfect puppy for you. Fred is fully vetted.
(Fred is located in Charleston, SC).
Lana is a senior mixed breed pup. She is full grown at about 45 pounds. Lana was pulled from a shelter because she was labeled as a hospice case. Her heartworm disease was so advanced and she also had multiple masses on her stomach. The shelter did not think she would survive, but we gave her a chance to anyway. Lana is no longer considered a hospice case. She has surprised us all and continuously shows us how grateful she is for her second chance.
Lana has completed her heartworm treatment and the swelling and inflammation of her heart and lungs are almost completely gone. She is in great health, but does need a dental procedure and surgical procedure to remove the growths on her belly. Unfortunately since Lana underwent heartworm treatment, we have to wait a few more months until she can undergo surgery, but we believe this girl shouldn't have to wait of her forever home.
Lana is looking for adopters willing to bring her in with the understanding that she is not completely finished with her medical care. For the next few months, Lana will need to have short leash walks/stay calm while her body continues healing. In May, Lana will be ready for her dental and her surgery for her masses. These procedures will be covered by our rescue.
We are not exaggerating when we say Lana is one of the best dogs we have ever met. She doesn't have accidents, chew, bark, get into things, and she doesn't need to be crated but will if she has to. She is truly incredible. She gets along with everyone, and she literally melts at your feet when showed attention. All she wants is love, and in turn has endless amounts to give back. Lana loves to sunbathe. If she isn't snoozing in the sun, she is snuggled up in a dog bed or on the couch. Lana also really enjoys going for adventures. We are adamant that she goes to home that will let her be a huge part of their life. She REALLY enjoys getting in the car and going for rides, and lays quietly in the back seat. She loves going places and saying hello to people, so a forever home that will allow her to have those adventures often is required. She had a rough start to life and deserves nothing more than to have her golden years be full of adventures and love!!
Lana's adopters will need to always be cautious of her health. Although she has completed her heartworm treatment, her body is still not that of a normal dog. We also want to be transparent that we will not know if her growths are cancerous until they are removed, but cannot remove them until she's cleared for surgery. Although we hate to place her in a forever home without all of the answers, we don't think it's fair for her to sit in foster care for another 6 months when she could be thriving in her forever home. She has already waited long enough!
(Lana is located in Charleston, SC).
Daisy is a sweet and quiet lady who came to us from a very crowded shelter. This young adult (approx 2-3) was found with a litter of puppies, so she was a mom at least once in her life. Her puppies were all adopted but she remained at the shelter. She was so timid and would hide in the corner of the kennel and play yards. We knew she would thrive with a foster home, and thankfully she has! She is now ready for her forever home. Here are some notes from her foster family:
"One meeting with miss Daisy and you'll see why all of us at Bridge Between have fallen crazy in love. Her beauty and sweet nature stand out. We don't know her story, but it must not have been a great start to life. Her first few days in foster care, she would hide in fear.
Daisy has been splitting her time between two foster families who have both fallen head over heels for her. There is not a much stronger testimony to her kind and gentle nature than that! For a dog like Daisy, this has proved invaluable of helping her adapt. Getting exposed to new sights, smells, experiences, and people have helped her progress soar. Although she is still a little nervous, she gets a little more brave and her personality shows more with each day!
Daisy is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She has a submissive personality but enjoys playing and snuggling with both humans and her furry friends. She is potty and crate trained. She walks great on the leash and is very well behaved in public, (no reactivity, pulling, etc). Daisy would thrive in a home with at least one other dog to show her the ropes, but the most important thing is having a person/family who will be steady and patient with her. She seeks to build a bond and trust with people, but it will take time to establish this in her new home. If you provide her with consistent calm and lots of grace, she will reward you with the best cuddles and most gentle temperament you can imagine. There is nothing quite as sweet as watching this flower bloom!"
Daisy will make a great dog for a person/family looking to add another dog to the home that is a quiet, sweet, and loving pup. We know there is a family out there who is able to provide her an amazing home. Daisy is fully vetted and heartworm negative.
(Daisy is located in Charleston, SC).
This girl gets her name from her adorable smile that stole our hearts when we first saw her in a rural shelter. We pulled Miley from a shelter with a high euthanasia rate. She was timid, and being nervous is enough reason to lose your life in this shelter.
Miley is about a year old, maybe 2 max. She is tiny and full grown at about 25 pounds. Our best guess is that she is a cattle dog and terrier mix. She is all legs! Miley has been doing wonderful working on her crate, potty, and leash training. We think her time in foster care is the first time she's lived in a house, so we are very impressed with her progress.
Miley is pretty low energy and mostly quiet. She enjoys the company of her foster dog siblings and her foster parents. She loves to snuggle up in a cozy spot and relax. She occasionally plays with the other dogs in the home but is still a little nervous with rough housing, so calmer dogs would be more ideal in her forever home. Miley's ideal home is one with a fenced yard since she prefers not to potty on the leash and can still be nervous on walks, however, an adopter willing to work on this would be an exception. We prefer Miley is adopted into a home with at least one other dog that will show her the ropes. She would also thrive with adopters who want a smaller dog that seeks affection, as she will follow you around and demand love as much as she can get it!
Miley is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and prevention, and heartworm negative.
(Miley is located in Charleston, SC).
Jace is working on his puppy training basics and doing amazing. He is outgoing, playful, confident, and snuggly. He loves people and other dogs! Jace would love a family that will continue his puppy training and spoil him like he deserves!
Jace is up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and prevention. His final vaccinations and neuter are covered by our rescue.
(Jace is located in Charleston, SC).
Colt is approximately 7-8 months and is a heeler mix. He is only about 35 pounds and won't get too much bigger. He is currently fostered in a home as the only dog and doing well! Colt is doing really great with his crate, potty, and leash training. He has loved having a fenced yard in his foster home and will romp and play with his toys and foster parents.
Colt is dog friendly. He is a moderately energetic dog, but because of his breed, we would prefer he goes to an active home. He would be fine as the only dog or with another furry sibling! He has not been around cats or kids.
Colt is on the schedule for his final vaccines and neuter surgery. He is able to be adopted before then as long as adopters will transport him to his final visits.
(Colt is located in Charleston, SC).
Sig would love a home with another dog, as he finds a lot of comfort with a furry companion in addition to his humans. Sig has not been around cats or kids.
Sig is on the schedule for his final vaccines and neuter. He can be adopted before then as long as adopters will transport him to the visits.
(Sig is located in Charleston, SC).
Adoptable Uno is an adorable kitten with just one eye! He is approximately 6 months old. He was almost euthanized at a rural shelter because he was so sick. Thankfully one of our volunteers saw him and said NO! He deserves to live! Uno came to the rescue where he was nursed back to health. His eye unfortunately could not be saved. He doesn't let him slow him down!
Uno is an adorable and affectionate kitten. He loves to play with toys, cuddle with his foster, hangout near the desk while his foster works, and loves to find fun in the every day simple things. Uno is litter box trained. He has been around other cats and dogs and done wonderful!
Uno is fully vetted and ready for his forever home!
(Uno is located in Charleston, SC).
